Global Top 10 Best Performing Flagship Phones and Mid-range Phones, March 2020

The first quarter of 2020 has passed. Dueto the outbreak of coronavirus, the mobile phone market has witnessed quite alot of problems. However, it is inevitable that 5G mobile phones have graduallyentered the international stage. More and more emerging 5G mobile phones haveappeared and made it into the Top 10 in terms of performance.

Based on the product data gained from thebackstage, Antutu has released the Global Top 10 Best Performing Android Phonesin March. Let’s have a look and see which phone ranks the first in March.

Just as always, there will be two lists,one for flagship phones, the other for mid-range phones. The ranking is mostlydetermined by the SoC.

The data collection period was from March 1to March 31. The scores shown here are all average scores, not the highest ones,which are more representative. And the number of products for data collectionconcerning single mobile phone is larger than 1,000. The data are calculatedbased on Antutu Benchmark V8.

1. Flagship Phones

In March, the Top 1 is the top-of-the-lineversion of Samsung’s latest flagship phones: Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G (865) 12+256G,with the average benchmark score of 562262.

As the typically good-looking S-seriesphone of Samsung in the first half of 2020, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is powered by Snapdragon865 SoC, and offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, plus the outstanding 100megapixels and 100 times zooming when taking photos, all of which are possiblymaking this phone the strongest and most powerful Android phone throughout theyear. But one noteworthy thing that buyers who care about smart phoneappearance should be aware of is its super-large camera modules and the bigscreen size.

As a matter of fact, among the Top 10 bestperforming Android phones this time, six of them are from Samsung Galaxy S20series. With different configuration, they have different rankings. Apart fromSamsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G (865), which ranks the first, those ranking thesecond to the fourth are respectively Galaxy S20+ (865) 12+256G version, GalaxyS20 Ultra 5G (990) 12+128G version, and Galaxy S20+5G (990) 12+128G version.Their average benchmark scores are 549904, 519297, and 516138 respectively.

It can be seen from the suffixes that S20phones with Snapdragon 865 SoC generally have higher benchmark scores thanthose with Samsung’s own Exynos 990 5G SoC. It is mainly due to theconfiguration of different versions of Samsung Galaxy S20 series. Besides,different combinations of ROM and flash memory will also have impact on theoverall score. However, they all go far beyond current demands in terms ofperformance.

The fifth is our “old friend”, which we’revery familiar with in the past half year: ASUS ROG Phone2 12+512G version. Withan average benchmark score of 510080, it has been overshadowed by the flagshipSoC of 5G era: Snapdragon 865 and Exynos 990.

The products ranking the 6th to the 10thare: Galaxy S20 (990) 8 +128GB (average score of 502688), Galaxy S20+(990) 8+128GB (average score of 502264), OnePlus 7T 8 + 256GB (average score of 495917),realme X2 Pro 12+256GB (average score of 484902), and OnePlus 7 Pro 8+256GB(average score of 478644).

It can be seen that the Samsung Galaxy S20 phonesranking the 6th and 7th use 5G Exynos 990 SoC, but they are slightly weakerthan ASUS ROG Phone2 in terms of storage. Therefore, ASUS has made it the 5thrank with several thousand scores higher. Or, all the top 6 would have beenfrom Samsung Galaxy S20 series.

OnePlus 7, ranking the 10th, still usesSnapdragon 855 SoC. If there are no more surprises, this should be the lasttime that Snapdragon 855 SoC appeared in the Top 10 Best Performing AndroidPhones. The 4G era has, after all, passed.

2. Mid-range Phones

Different from the great changes inflagship phones, for mid-range phones, there lacks product release with 5G SoCin the market, leading to the result that the rankings remain almost the sameas those of the last month. It seems that the market of mid-range 5G mobilephones has great potential to be explored.

In March, the one that ranks the firstamong mid-range phones is still Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB+128GB, with the overall benchmarkscore of 292510. MediaTek has brought brand-new Helio G series phones for someoverseas types. Apart from G90T adopted by Redmi Note 8 Pro, the SoC of theHelio G series is expected to expand gradually. But when it comes toperformance, G90T is still the most powerful one among the G series ofMediaTek.

The phones ranking the 2nd and 3rd are thesame: Mi Note 10 8GB+256GB and Mi 9T 6GB+128GB, with the benchmark scoresrespectively of 268759 and 265231.

The next seven products, according to therankings, are: Samsung Galaxy A71 6GB+128GB (average score of 265041), realmeX2 6GB+64GB (average score of 265028), Mi Note 10 6GB+128GB (average score of 264493),Samsung Galaxy A80 8GB+128GB (average score of 250658), realme Q 8GB+128GB(average score of 233869), realme XT 8GB+128GB (average score of 232178), andMi 9 SE 6GB+128GB (average score of 226183).

In summary, the changes in Top 10 BestPerforming Android Flagship Phones in March is comforting. After so long time,we finally get to see new 5G phones take up most of the quota within a shortperiod of time. As for mid-range phones, there hasn’t been so much news.Anyway, after 5G flagship phones become popular, it would be the time for themid-range 5G phones to experience some changes. So, let’s be patient and seewhat will happen in the future.
